The grounds are a absolutely beautiful. The home is made of brick and is evidenced by the deep doorways which are covered in plaster. It's simple yet elegant for the early to mid 1800's. I enjoyed all the clothing on display, yet is now going back to Atlanta. We were fortunate to see it.
We entered the main building and received a very warm smile from the gentleman at the desk. As he led us from room to room very interesting details of this historical plantation helped us understand the 1980's history and the family that had built this estate.
Interesting are his medical tools and equipment as well as other historic pieces. Yes, there are blood stains in front of the lower fireplace and it's said to be haunted.
Totally recommend this tour! So fascinating the history behind Murfreesboro and this mansion.
I enjoy the Oakland's mansion tour and it's historic significance especially during the battle of Stones River when the owner, Dr. John Maney, opened it up to wounded soldiers, first Confederate then Union.
Excellent mansion for children (and adults) to learn about local history. They also host many good educational events.
