Also, we have been here multiple times and never had staff be rude.
I have never in my life met a group of people more dedicated to helping these animals. The compassion and pure love shown from every single person working at PAWS is astounding. I've seen with my own eyes staff members working with with our dogs and cats, even if they come in frightened or aggressive, trying to get them the perfect home. I've seen them put in the extra effort to try and find the dog that accidently got out of your fence. I've seen them contact 30 rescues trying to find someone to take the difficult dog/cat who they couldn't get on the adoption floor.
Friendly reminder that PAWS is a low-kill shelter tasked with a community that is too large for their facility. They work very hard to find homes for the animals in their care and they do everything they can to keep euthenashia to a minimum. Keep in mind that it is not a customer service job, they are government employees who's main task is caring for animals in accordance with the law, not being nice to the public. It is easy to blame them for the area's animal problems but that doesn't make it right or accurate in any way.
We recently adopted a precious kitten who loves her homemade blanket that one of the staff made; she makes them for all the cats! Thank you for working so hard!
They are an amazing group of people doing great work. I have volunteered with them quite a bit and it's always been a very rewarding experience. Everyone is very nice and the animals are well cared for. They really do work hard to send as many of the animals to rescue as they can and euthenize as rarely as possible. I definitely hope to adopt from them when I have room for another pet. I highly recommend volunteering with PAWS.
Here's another thing: Our vet staff is the most hard working in all of TN. Our awesome Vet has to do about 30 surgeries a day (we do it free for the public) and provide vet care to every single animal in our care with limited resources. She's basically a rock star.
Worth zero stars!!! I had adopted a dog and a month later my ex boyfriend took him to a dog park and he had gotten out of the fence. He was gone like a day or two. PAWS had contacted me saying they had found him. I went up there so happy and ended up leaving with a court date! I now have to go to court bc he was RUNNING AT LARGE. They also made me pay extra $60 for keeping him there. I ended up releasing him back to PAWS bc I was so disgusted at how they handle things, and it was not worth keeping him after how they treated me! It was not my fault he got out! I had taken him to a dog park! PAWS really needs work:( WILL NEVER ADOPT FROM THERE AGAIN!
Went yesterday to adopt our precious lab mix. She had been there since 10|16. She was spayed clean and had seen a vet. The staff were very kind and considerate. The lady that helped us was very efficient taking care of two adoptions at once. They don't have enough staff to take care of all the customers and answer the phones. They probably don't have much time to return phone calls. Remember these are all volunteers. I found it very busy but efficient. We love our new dog from PAWS. The workers there are great.
NEWS FLASH: WE DON'T WANT TO EUTHANIZE THESE ANIMALS. We absolutely hate it. We do everything we can to prevent it. If a dog or cat has bitten a person, if they cannot be handled by us, if we run out of kennels and crates, if no rescue is willing to take them, we have no choice. We are government own. We are considered a LOW-KILL shelter with our euth rate just under 10%. We get animals from all Rutherford County, including biter dogs and aggressive animals. Also, we DO NOT euthanize pit bulls as soon as they come in just for being pit bulls. Most of the animals we have in the shelter are bully breeds.
I have worked at PAWS for over a year, and let me tell you why I love it:
We are the shelter/animal control for all of Rutherford County. Let me say it louder for those of you in the back: ALL OF RUTHERFORD COUNTY. Give our officers a break. They are following Tennessee law and just want what is best for the animals. And while we're at it, do you know how many people call PAWS every day? We take messages throughout the day and have ONE person answer the phone. Please put yourself in her shoes and understand why she can't answer every phone call for all of Rutherford County. Leave a CLEAR voicemail with your name and number and she will call you back. Cool? Cool.
Please get the facts. Thanks.
